Rare Swinging Plate Anemometer

This is a rare late Victorian Swinging Plate Anemometer by Gamages of London. Set in a mahogany case the mechanism opens out to a scale showing 3 levels of wind speed to be observed. Low wind speed is indicated by means of hanging the aluminum plate, adding the lead weights one is able to read the middle scale and for reading winds up to 56 miles an hour the heavy brass plate is employed. Although this wouldn't appear to be a sophisticated instrument, there is a penciled MO logo added to the base of the box indicating that it might of been bought by the British Meteorological Office possibly for testing or assessing its capability. Although working, there is some repaired damage to the wooden case
